Compress PDF is a document management utility that lets you save valuable space on your Android device by compressing PDF files. It takes advantage of a cloud-based compression service offered by the developers to provide you with optimal results. In some cases, the app can take a 10 MB file and compress it down to less than 500 KB.

Free Valuable Storage Space on Your Android Device

While the app can import PDF files from many cloud-based file storage services like Box and Google Drive so that they can be compressed, you'll probably find it the most useful with PDF files saved locally on your Android device.

Many types of informational documents, such as user manuals and technical specification sheets are made available for download in PDF format. This is also the case for many documents used in the workplace, especially virtual faxes. Even though the PDF file format offers numerous advantages, it often makes files take up more space than they should. PDF documents containing large images are particularly affected by this problem.

If you have many PDF documents saved on your Android tablet or smartphone, using a specialized compression service can squeeze them down to a much smaller size.

Powerful Cloud-Based PDF Compression Service

Compressing large files is a very processor-intensive computing task. While this may not be a big problem on a desktop, it will quickly drain the battery of a mobile device, making it impractical to carry out when not plugged in.

Compress PDF solves this problem by doing the compression work in the cloud. Every file you choose to be compressed is sent to their powerful compression servers. You can perform an unlimited number of compressions, but the free service takes one hour to send you back the compressed PDF file. If you want your file compressed immediately, you can pay a per-item fee.

As using the app involves downloading and uploading files over the Internet, it will use up your mobile data allotment if you're on a mobile cellular connection. Though the developers maintain that they delete every file off their server after the compression is finished, sending the files to a remote service might carry some privacy implications if they contain sensitive data.

Results May Vary From One File to the Next

In general, the app and its associated service do their job quite well. This doesn't mean every PDF document can be compressed perfectly. On a few occasions, the compressed file will only be smaller by a few KB or not compressed at all. Compressing certain other documents can lower their quality to the point that they're hard to read, especially if they contain detailed graphics. Some competing services let users select a compression level to avoid this, but unfortunately Compress PDF doesn't yet have this function.
